What visa do you need?

You need a national visa category D. Depending on your individual situation, different types of national visas may be considered.

Visa for a German course (max 12 months)

When applying for a visa, you must first present an admission confirmation* for a German course. Further information on the other requirements can be found on the website of the German embassy responsible for you.

Visa for studying in Germany

This visa for study purposes allows you to stay in Germany for a longer period of time. When applying for the visa, you must present a certificate of enrolment from a Studienkolleg, university or college in Germany. Further information on the other requirements can be found on the website of the German embassy responsible for you.

In the case of national visas (category D), processing times may take up to 3 months or sometimes even longer. In addition, you must present proof of financing (blocked account or declaration of guarantee) and health insurance.

Blocked account

A blocked account confirms that you have sufficient funds available to cover tuition fees, accommodation and meals. Further information and requirements can be found here.

*After you have booked a course with us and paid for it in full, we will send you the confirmation of enrollment that you need for your visa application or visa extension (residence permit).
